Walk 65A (#10) [8¼ miles] - Clun & Bury Ditches

Well they say that not all the loonies are locked up, and today was proof positive!

Three of us set off from Clun in thick mist (for once the TV forecaster was spot on). We left Clun heading towards Bury Ditches via the Youth Hostel heading north east and climbing all the while.

Just a tad on the misty side

We skirted round the south of Steppeknoll and decided to have a quick break for coffee.

After re-starting we were suddenly joined by Kato, a Jack Russell who seemed very pleased to have come company - more of him later. We then arrived at Dawes Lines only to discover that suddenly the path had been diverted. Do you think we could find the diversion? Could we eckaslike!

We then took a sharp left on to the Shropshire Way and climbed Sunny Hill and entered Bury Ditches - the views were fabulous - but could we see them? - No.

Along Jack Mytton Way and round the north of Steppeknoll - still with Kato in attendance and stopped for lunch at a band in the track near Guilden Down. At this point Mike telephoned Kato's owner who was very pleased to hear we had him.

We returned to Clun along Jack Mytton Way, delivering a now very dirty and smelly Kato to his owner by the Youth Hostel - he had been with us for about 2½ hours and by our reckoning must have done at least 8 miles to our 4.

As we descended into Clun the mist slowly started to lift. We had covered 8¼ miles in 3½ hours. Thanks to Geri & Mike for their company.
