Walk 66 [6½ miles] - Clun, Bicton & Colstey

It was good to get out into the hills after a few frustrating weeks of bad weather.

Six of us set off from the Memorial Car Park in Clun and we were pleased to welcome Vanessa from Bedstone who joined us.

We headed up along the Shropshire Way in the direction of Whitcott Keyset. The weather was overcast with a few spits and spots of rain, and with the occasional promise of sunshine - alas not fulfilled (although after we finished the walk the sun came out in the afternoon - typical!). We climbed steadily until eventually a short break for coffee was called for.

Looking back towards Clun

We continued a gentle climb then headed towards Bicton, avoiding a rutted and muddy sunken track.

Didn't want to go down there - too muddy

It was then off to Colstey, staying briefly on the main road along a stretch charmingly named Tadpole Bank before turning back towards Clun. It was at about this time that rumblings of hungry tums were heard and we found a conveient spot in the corner of a field for lunch.

After that it was downhill all the way, along Jack Mytton Way and back to the Memorial Car Park. About 6½ miles - very many thanks to Colin and Anne for guiding us.
