Walk 92 [5.6 miles] - Caer Caradoc

OS217 OS137 garmin

What a funny old day. Five of us set off from the car park near Gaerstones Farm for Caer Caradoc. It was quite foggy and very crisp underfoot making walking along flooded (now skating rink) paths quite tricky. Trees and shrubs were coated in frost and when the sun deigned to make an appearance the result was quite breathtaking.

Up the track before the ascent

Erm - well yes, it was a bit on the foggy side

We headed up Caer Caradoc; visibility was at best 30 metres and eventually we reached the summit where we stopped for refreshment in the lee of a large outcrop of rocks.

Sheltering for coffee - no view!

Up here the biting north easterly wind made its presence felt and we soon moved on and descended across Little Caradoc and turned right towards Golley Green and The Wilderness.

Quite remarkable glass stem type ice formation at Golley Green

Snow covered berries in The Wilderness

A rather chilled looking walker

We eventually returned along the foot of Caer Caradoc, stopping for lunch en route before finally returning to the cars. It had been the intention to climb Willstone and Hope Bowdler Hill, but in view of the visibility we cut the walk short eventually managing to complete 5.6 miles.
